Coda W speakers launch for $999 200W active speakers with Uni-Q drivers aptX Lossless and built-in phono stage
KEF have brought back its iconic Coda bookshelf speakers with a distinctly digital twist: the self-powered speakers feature Bluetooth 5.4 with aptX Lossless, enabling you to stream full-quality CD audio.
If you prefer your audio sources to be more physical, the Coda W also feature HDMI ARC, USB-C and optical inputs for the digital world. And for the analog lovers, there's RCA and an integrated phono stage for one of the best turntables .
The original KEF Coda speakers helped cement the firm's reputation as an
audio innovator, and the new Coda W promise to blend the firm's "signature audio precision with thoughtful, intuitive usability". (Image credit: KEF)
KEF Coda W speakers: key features and pricing
The speakers deliver a combined 200W of power, with each speaker benefiting from dedicated amplifiers for the tweeter and for the woofer. That's a good chunk of power for a pair of bookshelves.
The main driver is a large 5.25-inch, 12th generation Uni-Q array, which places the tweeter in the acoustic center of the woofer, delivering uniform dispersion throughout your room, and it's overseen by KEF's Music Integrity Engine digital signal processing.
With Bluetooth 5.4 and aptX Adaptive the Coda W supports wireless streaming
at full CD quality (16-bit/44.1kHz), though you'll get higher resolution if you go through the USB-C input.
The Coda W also features a dedicated subwoofer output for larger rooms or
home theater setups where you might want a bit more low-end punch. That's compatible with KEF's wireless KW1 subwoofer adapter kit for cable-free connection.
On the subject of cables, the Coda W come with a 3-meter interspeaker cable and there's an 8-meter version available as an optional extra. The Coda W can also be paired with KEF's SQ1 floor stands.
They're good-looking things, and you can choose from five different colors: Vintage Burgundy, Nickel Grey, Moss Green, Midnight Blue, and Dark Titanium.
All in all, they're a very tempting option for audiophiles looking for a modern, premium option among the best stereo speakers . The KEF Coda W speakers are available for $999 (about 750 / AU$1,500).
