I picked up another WRT1900AC router on Shopgoodwill.com for $29. I'm
not too concerned about the slower wifi speeds, as all of my systems are
on ethernet. I do like the dual-image feature - there are dual firmware
images on the router. They come from the factory with 2 Linksys images.
When you perform a firmware upgrade to OpenWRT/DDWRT, only one image is updated. If you brick your image, power cycle the router 3 times without
having it boot and it'll flip to the other image to recover.
I suppose you could have OpenWRT on one image and DDWRT on the other...
It's a hell of a lot easier than trying to recover a router with a JTAG
cable or TFTPing an image to it, which I had to do with another brand of
router once.
They're chonky enough to handle my network speeds, and hey, I'm
nostalgic enough for the WRT54G to love the blue and black look.
