• Remove "ping" on username mention

This appears to be something new that was added that is highly annoying to me and should never have been turned on by default.

This needs to be turned off. I'm also told that it can be configured by a template change. Not acceptable since messing with templates will mess with git.

This needs to be moved to a user configurable parameter whereby a user can choose if they want to be pinged when their nick is used.

Mention support was added in October of 2024 (c3eba291).

Trying to grasp how this is "highly annoying". The very idea of a mention is that it be attention grabbing in case you're idling, and someone sees you're in the room and wants to chat with you.

I could see the audible aspect of the mention being user toggle-able, maybe just a CRTL+M to mute chat sounds or something. But then I have to wonder, and forgive this for seeming flippant, why could the user not just mute the PC or application? Or leave chat if you're not available?
