That takes me back. On weekends, me and a guy I knew used to hit all the computer stores in his area and we'd see folks like that all the time.

What was fun was messing with salespeople that obviously didn't know about what they were selling; they'd just rattle off specs without really knowing what they ment. Sometimes they actually made up stuff, figuring I was just another clueless mark. Bad move.

That was a great time to be a geek.

When I was 14, I used to hit our only local computer store - where they had a Compaq Presario connected to T1 Internet on display - and that's where I registered my first ICQ UIN, which I still remember (you had to keep all the logins and password in your head =).
