    Hello All.

In this time of countless destructive programs that are transmitted
to you via E-Mail, the BBS community of System Operators offer a
secure "shield" from these intrusions. Many BBSes offer a "text only"
form of internet E-Mail through a special system of "gates". These
gates effectively trap file attachments and active "scripts" that can
attack your computer. You are completely isolated from the
destructive attempts. The trade-off? You generally cannot receive
attachments of pictures, files, or Web Page type mails; only text.
Many folks find this alternative quite acceptable.

The benefits? Many BBSes have sophisticated "spam traps" in place
that dump the all-too-common garbage mail that swamps many people.
You don't need a fast computer or high-speed internet connection in
most cases. Many BBSes still maintain "dial-up" lines as well as
"telnet" connections via the internet. The speed requirement is very
low. With dial-up BBSes you don't even need a connection to the
internet at all - no Internet Service Provider required. It's a
completely different environment than the Web.

Are these "text only games" accessible with a standard email client
using POP or IMAP, or must you log into the BBS to use them?

Any games on my BBS are on the BBS only. You must be logged in to play them. Note that *some* BBSes MAY have games that can be played via e-mail... You have to investigate that on your own.

    Best regards,
