Having won both the PGA Championship and the Open last year, world No.1 Scheffler just needs the US Open title in order to become the seventh golfer in history to complete the career Grand Slam. The sixth, of course, was McIlroy, who went through a decade-long barren run in the Majors before finally triumphing at the Masters. With the monkey at last off his back, we wouldn't be surprised if the affable Northern Irishman added more Major titles to his collection. And wouldn't it be poetic if that had an impact on Scheffler's Grand Slam quest?
It feels like a matter of time before Young, a six-time top-10 finisher in Majors, Viktor Hovland, a top-five finisher at at least one Major in each of the past four years, and Tommy Fleetwood, a seven-time top-five finisher in Majors and finally free of the nearly-man tag after breaking his PGA Tour duck at the 164th time of asking get over the hump, and we'd put young upstart Aberg in that bracket too.
