• Fidonet Nodelist Police?

From digimaus@618:618/1 to All on Thu Nov 14 22:10:42 2024
    Hi everyone,

I get a netmail out of the blue from Michiel van der Vlist, who is in zone
2, trying to tell me my nodelist entry is wrong. He has no buisness doing that, especially across zones. It amazes me the stones on these Europeans. What is it about some of these Dutch sysops thinking they're right about everything? You know if I did that to him, he'd be making a policy complaint about me the minute after he got my message.

I've been begging Andrew for a twit filter for MBSE. LOL

That dos one you told me about works great if MBSE is using
squish. I have it in the dosbox-x autoexec.bat hahahaha

I'd bet it's about the 'ICM' flag... If you're flying that, do you have another non-internet method of connecting, such as POTS/ISDN or
anything? Trust me, I'm about the last to defend the Euro-commies, but
that's the purpose of the ICM flag, as I understand it, meaning that you
are not 'CM' for the non-internet connection ability. <SHRUG>

    MBSE uses JAM.

The point is that someone in Zone 2 should not be sending out netmail blasts (it wasn't just me) interzone about an issue that is none of their business. If he is worried, he has to get my RC involved, not me directly, as it is my RC who approves my nodelist segment. I could technically file a policy complaint but I'm not going to because Fidonet isn't worth the trouble. I mainly still carry Fidonet for a long-time caller of mine (he's 84). When he stops calling, I'm going to drop Fidonet completely as anyone I care about is also in Micronet.

Besides, no one but him has said anything to me in 28 years about that flag. It's much ado about nothing and Michiel is just a shitstirrer at heart.

Andrew Leary, who's been in Fidonet much longer than Michiel and serves as the FTSC administrator, told my my use of the flag is the common usage.

Michiel van der Vlist is a bitter old man who uses Fidonet as something to validate his existence, much like Ward does.

100% agreement about not being his business.

Understood and again I agree completely.

    usage.

Could be, but doesn't really seem to be all that common. I guess I'm
not understanding why you would use it, if you don't have another
non-internet connection method to access your system. Isn't that what
it is supposed to be used for? It doesn't give me any heartburn that
you do use it, but it actually doesn't seem to make much sense, either.

Michiel van der Vlist is a bitter old man who uses Fidonet as something
to validate his existence, much like Ward does.

I know, and once again agree. I've found that for me the best thing to
do is just laugh at them. ;-) Cheers!

I just ignore them these days, except when they're trying to play schoolmarm.

    They'll all be dead someday.

Laugh, I have never understood why some people love to examine
the nodelist in such detail for fun.

I hope my nodelist entry is incorrect somewhere. I'm going to ask
Nick if he could use a flag I shouldn't have to make them crazy. ;)

As for Micronet.... Can you add my phone number to it? Just select
whatever the number for the police is where what's his name lives.

don't have a social life except online.

He very nearly ran me off but I can't resist trolling him. Daryl had a lot
of personal issues going on that were not public and those played a major
    part of his eventual disappearance.

As for Michiel, he's just another member of the Eurotrash(tm).

Yes he did. I think he and I were the last two GT Power sysops left and I hated to see him go. His board is still up so I try to drop in there every
