    Hi everyone,

I finally pulled a nearly Darwin Award-winning move last night: I was
eating at the computer watching a video, choked, coughed so hard I
passed out, fell, smacked my left ribcage on my floor fan, and am so
very sore. Thankfully I had some laundry sitting where my head landed
else things could have been much worse.

Gotta pay more attention to things.

I'm so careful not to fall standing up, but I manage to do this while
    sitting down!

Yeah.. I can't imagine how one would do that sitting. Was it
an armless chair and you leaned too far to the side while you
    were hacking?

Yes. I am in pretty bad pain now so I am going to urgent care tomorrow. There's also popping sounds around that area in my ribcage so I am hoping that I did not dislocate a rib or something. In my 2008 car accident, I cracked all of my ribs so I am in not that much pain comparatively but when I have to tense my chest muscles, I involuntarily groan.

Glad that the choking bit cleared itself up during all of that. Makes me hurt a little just thinking about it!

It still hurts badly. Went to urgent care, had an X-ray. No damage to
the ribcage, just bruised. Taking Tramadol for the pain.

I am badly bruised now there and on the lower right of my stomach which
means I bounced around before I hit the floor.

I'm just glad I didn't hit my head thanks to laundry on the floor!

Wow.. that's a bit scary.. I haven't really tried to kill myself in
a few years other than the odd time going through the ice on the bay,
although I'm careful that the water is not deep enough to do much
    more than soak my legs..

But one year I was crossing some rough bedrock in winter with
a little bit of snow on the ground. I was here alone, no one less
than half a mile away and in one spot where I'd hop across about
a 3 foot wide gap in the rock a couple of feet deep, as I pushed
off, instead of my foot launching me forward, my foot slipped on
the snow and I just dropped forward. I started putting my hands
down to break my fall but, due to the 'hole', before my hands
touched the ground, my head hit the bedrock on the other side.
It was well below freezing and it very nearly knocked me right
out and that could have ended up a lot worse than a headache..

That's the one that could have killed me.. It's a dangerous place
at times for the most part. I once split the skin over my kneecap
right to the bone and in another fall I broke my shoulder, and
I am virtually always on my own when these things happen..

In my misspent youth I had 2 motorcycle accidents, one at over
70 mph and one at about 110 mph, and I more or less walked
    away from those

Sometimes I wonder how I survived to this age... B)

I have VA and Medicare as well as a Medicare Advantage plan. I hope so!

Who'd be foolish enough to give it to me... B)

BTW.. I was talking about carefully walking out on the thin ice 2 days
ago to get water, staying where it was only a foot deep water or so..

Today when I went out I started to re-cut the hole and it seemed to
be really solid (I was jumping up and down) so I went out to deeper
water to chop the new hole and I had to cut through 6 inches of ice.

I couldn't believe how much it had thickened in 2 days.
I hauled out my big wooden box with a lid that I put over the hole
once winter finally gets here, so now I just have to wonder if
things are going to warm up again before true winter gets here
and I'd have to pull it all out again..

I got a note (and phone call) from Hydro today saying they will
be turning my power off on Dec 17th for 4 hours to work on
some local lines. I hope it's no longer than that, which would
be really annoying.. and maybe, with luck, it will not be quite
as cold as it was today. (High/Low -13c/-17c 10f/-2f)

You can't really go by their time estimates because my last 2 power
outages, one they said it would be off for 4.5 hours, and it was
off for 10 minutes, and the other they said would last 5 hours and
it was off for 27 hours..

I was going to say that I have our gov't Medical Insurance but I don't
think those plans do anything other than give you immediate medical assistance.. After that, if you end up disabled, you'd be applying to
    a different gov't service..
