HUGE SUNSPOT HURLS CME TOWARD EARTH: A sunspot so large it visually rivals Carrington's famous sunspot of 1859 hurled a CME toward Earth today. Don't worry! A new Carrington Event is not in the offing. The incoming CME isn't potent enough. However, this huge sunspot merits watching while Earth is in its strike zone. I was just at SWPC and then Spaceweather.com they are reporting cannibal CME that should arrive 10MAY24 and/or 11MAY24 still.
As is tradition here in New York, anytime anything even remotely interesting is going on in the sky it's going to be overcast...
However, in the past I have noticed active aurora by the odd distortion of audio on 40m ham radio. The voice signals had the sound of someone talking into a fan. So perhaps we'll still get to experience something if we do get a good solar event.

I just posted another spaceweather message about that. You may have already seen it, but it includes a link to a NOAA prediction graphic that is pretty neat. They are predicting that it will hit Earth very early tomorrow morning UT, which for US EDT I think would be sometime after 8pm tonight.

Yeah, I've been watching and it's started. The K index is like 8+
I'm still receiving on 40m and 20m so I've still got East Coast and Americas. Digital seems to be still working too. I'm starting to hear the voice modulation that comes with a solar storm though at 7.185 Mhz LSB 19:36 EDT There's a net on and they seem to be having a hard time making their usual call up.
