• Networks Alive or Dead!?

From Al DeRosa@21:4/131 to All on Wed Jan 28 18:18:23 2026
Hey folks, not sure if this is the right place to post this, but it's that time of year for me, clearing out the dead networks, I know a few that I have are being brought back soon, but here is a list of networks I carry that I haven't received anything from in ages.

Gamenet - Probably a year since anything was posted.
WINSnet - Heard it was closing down 12/31/25 True???
    DoreNet - Supposedly being revamped.

These 3 are the biggest ones I am looking for info on.. Anyone have info on these??

Pretty much every network except fsxnet and fidonet are dead. I was on DoREnet and the hub couldn't really give a crap about whether I was able to properly connect or not and I just gave up in the end.

I'm on a list of networks like survnet, agoranet, etc and they're all dead. Most traffic is of the type "is this working because I don't see anything".

Most networks are pretty much all duplicates of what's here or on fido though some more specialized than others to thin down the pool a bit more.

I'm forever finding that hubs are broken, down, somehow my passwords changed or I've been unsubbed from everything. I'm sure network owners will say otherwise, but unless you're going to post a whole bunch of stuff to all the networks to try and keep them busy, I'd just stick to one or two.

Zer0net is fine, and jp! is accepting new applications. Decent amount of chat there (no more or less than fsxNet IMHO).

He didn't want me first time around. If he wants my board as part of his network he can come ask me. I'm not begging for shit.

I think you're looking at this all wrong. He does not need your board, but only you know if you need his network. He was always open in the past about Zer0net being quite exclusive back in the day, but that has been loosened up recently and more boards have been joining (at least 4+ in the past 4 weeks that I know of) ...

    From: https://jackphla.sh/zer0net-2024-changes/

Zer0net has been opened up, and acceptance criteria has been loosened considerably. Ultimately, most of us are members of echo mail networks in order to be able to participate in more active conversations with a wider variety of people than just what is happening in our local message bases with our local users, even those of us lucky enough to have very active local message areas. Having an 'elite' membership when (more times than not) we have very little active conversation, seems a bit self-defeating.

I'd think you outta give it another try... If BBS-ing is about anything, it's about community at this point, and there is so much more interconnection between our BBSs now in 2026, with shared One Liners, Shared BBS lists for users to browse, More Networks, IRC Chat where users across BBSs can hang out, etc ...

    --- Cheers.

Just curious, are Mail Only nodes accepted, or is having a BBS up and running a must?

    That's nice.

Kind of self-inflicted wound there. I guess they're going to go from a dead private network to a dead open network.

I'd think you outta give it another try... If BBS-ing is about anything, it's about community at this point, and there is so much more

I did try and I wasn't good enough.

Like you said, they are opening it up because they want more boards to join, so I would very much say they need my BBS more than I need their network.

zer0net is many things but dead is not one of them.

Nah, not with that attitude. Which board is yours? Did you already apply? I certainly hope you don't plan to.
