So.. with a break in the fools spring we're having I finally got out for a ride.
6 miles after nearly a year off the bike seemed acceptable and took out the old Defy 5 which has some 6100 miles on the machine. I was getting some chain jump under load as I pedaled. I'm thinking that is a dry chain and has some frozen links. Any other opinions as to why when you are applying even but heavy force to the chain it might jump teeth on the cassette?
For any of you on Strava, there's a handful of us in Elmira, NY I'm the icon with the Snail that goes by Bicycle Commuterman.

After not using it for a year, you didn't think you should check/lube it
    some first?

    Might be a misaligned derailleur.

That's the strange part that prompted the post. I did check everything out and nothing seemed amidst with the set up. Nothing of the tell tale signs were there.

I suppose that's my next point to re inspect but on the stand I wasn't getting any issues. I need to be loaded down like in a climb or a sprint.
