• Del Taco - Review

From Geri Atricks@21:3/235 to All on Thu Apr 9 20:10:06 2026
Just went to the Del Taco here in Huntsville AL for the first time. I was NOT impressed. To start off the girl at the register had less personality than Ben Stine, and did not look like she wanted to be there. I ordered a "Beef & Cheddar burrito", the personality challenged girl asked me if I wanted "Red or Green" and I had no idea what she was talking about, and SHE couldn't even explain it to me. Got the burrito, started eating it and was wondering where the cheddar was, it was basically nothing but beef, NOTHING like what the menu board was showing. I also got their "Chili Cheddar Fries", and the chili tasted more like enchilada sauce than chili. Over all I have to say that Taco Bell is far superior to Del Taco and I will not be going back again.

I never really got the appeal of Del Taco. Tried it off and on for 20 years while I lived in CA. It was always just "OK" to me. I grew up on Taco Bell though and even worked there for a couple years in high school. I definitely prefer the bell over the del.

Interesting.. I generally like Del Taco, and I feel like their food is higher quality than Taco Bell (I feel like Taco Bell is basically the McDonald's of fast Mexican food, though I do like Taco Bell). Maybe you just had a bad experience that time. I feel like it's really fair to post a review of a restaurant after visiting only one time; I think it's good to visit multiple times so you get a sense of their consistency.

If you're in the pacific northwest US, I'd also suggest trying Taco Time to see what you think of them.

Interesting.. I used to often have to rush to the bathroom after eating Taco Bell (and that seems to be a common complaint about them), but that hasn't been happening to me lately with Taco Bell.

If I try a different store (maybe after I get moved to Phoenix) then I will do a second review.

There is another place here that friends have said was really good called "Taco Mama" that I need to try before I move.

Del Taco was the place you went to for post-party debriefs when Taco
Bell was closed. You never went there, you ended up there.

    I do miss Naugles, though.

We need a bare bones, cheap, decent, old school taco joint. No more
crunchwraps, chicken stackers or cantina menus - just tacos, burritos
and nachos - and make it cheap.

This whole thread has been very interesting to me. Where I live, Del Taco is 10000% better than Taco Bell. Del Taco's raw ingredients alone are enough to put it way over Taco Bell.

But the real stuff: Do you guys not have taco stands, Betos (or the million derivatives - Albertos, Ranchorito, etc.)?

I do like what Taco Bell has to offer, but I also like the idea of having a place that offers a more focused menu and lower prices.

That's one thing I like about In-N-Out - They don't offer a huge menu, but their prices are a bit lower than many other fast food places, and I think their food is pretty good. There's a new In-N-out being built not far from me, and I'm looking forward to that. I'll probably wait a while before I go to that location though because they tend to attract a lot of traffic for a while (which is something I'm not looking forward to). In-N-Out built a location about a 45 minute drive from me a few years ago, and it's still fairly busy much of the time.

Don't know if it checks all your boxes, but I liked King Taco in Covina when
I stopped there. It was the best burrito I had ever had... now it is tied
    with Burrito Loco in Paducah.

The latter is a drive-up in what looks to be a former Rally's.

We don't have taco trucks as much where I am now as when I worked in
Silicon Valley, but we do have some great taquerias.

    And, they ain't taco bell/del taco - that's a different beast
    altogether.

Kudos to In-N-Out for not gouging customers with their prices. When
California raised their minimum wage, the other fast food places jacked
their prices up significantly. In-N-Out raised their prices a quarter.

Although, their CEO is a twit. Daughter of the founder, moves the home
office from Southern California, where they started, to Tennessee,
claiming California is bad for business and a horrible place to raise
children - yet she's rich thanks to the very state that drove her
    company's success.

She's since backpedaled, the company is only opening a regional office
for her in Tennessee and keeping the presence in California. The little
people can stay in hell, I suppose.
