Up to the vote taker! My impression was all you did was ask for information.

The posted election rules specifically stated that a vote could not be
    changed once it was cast.

Seems to me that the OP could/should have done a little research before
he decided he "can't vote either up or down".

Mystic BBS has no ideas that there could be life outside of cp437
    realm.

Not too much different than the cp866 crowd.

Oops... my latest patch to GoldED source code has done the thing and deanonymized my $LANG/$LC_ALL environment variable.

FWIW, my recent tests with "KOI8-R 2" vs "CP866 2" revealed, that Z2:R50 folks are not ready to read any Cyrillic outside of DOS encoding back in 90th which is CP866.

Speaking of which, what does the cp866 crowd think about your "KOI8-R
    2"?

Well, if you stay within the true ASCII range, which is <127, you can claim any, and I repeat ANY charset aka @CHRS, including utf-8.
I'm writing in 'CP866 2' now and you are reading me well, just as an example.

    just update that fakken fta-1003

:-) It is pretty sad that is for sure. How come you're not running
    for ftsc meembership?

    Hey Nil!

my latest patch to GoldED source code has done the thing

It could work for me but first you need to get utf-8 working before I'd get excighted about it. I have a couple points that can convert utf-8 to whatever REAL 8-bit character set including koi8-{r|u}. It doesn't scare me.

Z2:R50 folks are not ready to read any Cyrillic outside of DOS
encoding back in 90th which is CP866.

    FTS-0000000000000000001 document

I could live without it. For sure all the binary crap *should* get the heave-ho. As for encoding utf-8 is the way to go but I don't see it happening soon and I fully plan to exploit it as-is (fts-5003.001). As for fts-0001.016, there are very few hubs that actually support it and haven't for a couple decades now. The document they wish to replace it with isn't any better methinks.

I haven't researched it but I'm pretty sure copyrights are being broken in Fidonet at different levels .... that's the anarchistic beauty of it.

Without producing something entirely new or breaking copyrights, advancement is a challenge.

So, in this case the copyright-thing is merely an excuse to not do anything.

    1) The FTSC is not a legal entity, it cannot own anything;
    2) Every time someone writes something, there's a copyright on it. I wrote something in this echo, you responded to my copyrighted message without formally asking me permission to quote from it ... violation ...

For a complete breakdown of MSGID/REPLY see fts-0009.001. They are seperate lines but are related since in order to create a REPLY a MSGID for the msg one is replying to is critical. There should be no REPLY without a MSGID. The REPLY kludge contained in this reply (without quotes) was obtained from your last msg addressed to me and is traceable back to the original nonreply msg which has a MSGID but no REPLY since it wasn't an actual reply.

And this is the MSGID/REPLY kludge from your message I am responding to:

    Date: 24 Mar 24 00:20:09
    MSGID: 2:280/464.113 65ff71b9

Please compare that to what's in the header of this message. Seems purrrfectly OK to me, my cat would say (if I had one).

If there is an issue you need to be more specific because I'm not seeing it. However, if something indeed is missing when it arrives at your system then I suggest the following things:

    a) I notice one time you're writing from a node-address and the next time you're writing from a point-address. Buggy configurations?

    b) Buggy Linux-software? You're a Linux-guy and I guess my messages here reach you via Wilfred, who is also a Linux-guy ...

Within a few minutes Wilfred will respond with a more in-depth analyses...

    Enjoy the week-end,

    \%/@rd

    Hey Ward!

You failed to answer the question which had nothing to do with fts-0009.001 from a technical pov.

If nobody is allowed to quote your MSGs without your permission then is the REPLY part, which is copied from your MSGID not the same as quoting without permission? This is not a technical question.

As for my differing addresses they are both valid and I have access to both in order to test these sorts of ideas, hence the differing configurations. Also they are two independent machines. Also, also have two other machines with their own point addresses off of this node which I can easily alter to suit whatever testing I care to come up with, most of which has nothing to do with fidonet or anything like it. Most of my software is geared towards development (compilers, interpretors, shells, etc). Dealing with people, such as yourself, has always been a weak spot with me.

I look forward to Wilfred's reply.

    Life is good,
    Maurice
