    High,

I just read about ballot drop boxes being set of fire in the United States. The article said that they were trying to retrieve voter information from the ballots to contact them and the arcticle had a photo of a red box out on the open street. :-O
How does that work? Is your name on the ballot or just on a second envelope that gets removed before counting teh votes? How can you tell if the drop box is official? Why isn't the box inside a building to protect it? Why is noone guarding it?

I don't have the answers but I just wanted to say that these are good questions. I live in a part of the USA that does not use them and I have never heard of "ballot boxes" until this happened.

There are lots of other questions to be asked about this also:

What is the point of the ballot box?
Why don't they just use the mail instead?
What is the procedure for retrieval of the ballots from the box?
How will the votes be counted if the ballots are unreadable from the damage?

This one. Your name is on the envelope and the ballot is inside. They match your name up from the envelope to check off that you voted, then put the ballot in the queue to be counted.

How can you tell if the drop box is official?

You can't. Most people don't use them.

Why isn't the box inside a building to protect it? Why is
    noone guarding it?

Because they are used to faciliate voter fraud.

Ballot boxes are illegal in most of the country. I'm surprised you didn't hear about them because they were a focus on the voter fraud that happened in 2020. See the movie "2000 Mules".

What is the point of the ballot box?

    To facilitate voter fraud.

Why don't they just use the mail instead?

That costs money. And the postal employees destroy ballots. The mail is not trustworthy.

What is the procedure for retrieval of the ballots from the box?

Supposedly like the Mail. A certified person with a key unlocks the box and takes them to be processed.

How will the votes be counted if the ballots are unreadable from the damage?

They won't be. People who used that ballot box should be contacting their local gov't office to get a new ballot. Or better yet, vote in person.

... Excuse me, while I change into something more formidable.

I will try to find that film. Wikipedia calls that film "a conspiricist film" that makes "false claims." (And we all know what that means when translated.)

My concern is that the "certified person" will put the unreadably damaged ballots in the Kamala pile.

To collect absentee ballots from people who won't be able to vote on
election day. Or choose not to vote in person.

Why don't they just use the mail instead?

Because postal employees are not election workers tasked with

What is the procedure for retrieval of the ballots from the box?
How will the votes be counted if the ballots are unreadable from the damage?

People are being asked to call the election office in their area if
they dropped off their ballot between certain windows of time when
ballots would have been in the box. They can either request another
ballot or appear at their voting location and request a provisional
    ballot.

Around here, people do. The location of the ballot boxes is printed in

36 states allow no-reason absentee voting.

You have asked a lot of good questions there. The people who believe that unmanned, unguarded drop boxes are a good idea generally don't want them to
be manned or secured. Presumably makes them easy to stuff extra ballots
    into.

The people who do not believe we should be using unmanned polling places are usually painted as being part of some conspiracy to prevent people from
    voting.

If it works anything like absentee voting, there is an envelope that the
ballot must be put into and that envelope must include the official label
as well as the voter's signature... two things that could be forged.

In my state, we do not use those boxes. We have three early voting days, including a Saturday, where official, manned polling locations are open before the official day. It works great. No worries about ballot box stuffing, tampering, or destruction, and plenty of extra time for the working folks
    to get their votes in.

In my opinion, if you are using an unmanned ballot box to cast your vote,
you are only asking for trouble.

In my opinion, if you are using an unmanned ballot box to cast your vote, yo are only asking for trouble.

You drop off your ballot. The following day you get a robocall, text or email confirming that your ballot has been received. If you don't receive confirmation you call the local elections office at the telephone number on your voter information packet and receive a new ballot or are asked to vote on election day and ask for a provisional ballot.

I've never had a problem with a dropoff ballot.

Voters could sell their votes by making a photo of the ballot before putting it in the envelope. Someone could point a gun to your head to "assist making up your mind". And ballots could be lost after you got your drop off confirmation.

Why don't they just use the mail instead?

Because postal employees are not election workers tasked with

You have explained all this very well, but I don't get why someone would trust an election worker better than they trust their postal workers.

What is the procedure for retrieval of the ballots from the box?

It seems irresponsible to toss it in a ballot box. (That's how much they care about their country.)

Now another question comes to mind: What does anyone have to gain by
burning the ballot boxes in such liberal states?

No. They have lots and lots of undamaged ballots for the Ho. They have them printed at the local print shop and have a bunch of "volunteers" sign them.

Just like they did here in Michigan where we have evidence of 1 person voting like 16,000 times.

Because postal employees are not election workers tasked with

But they are at least someone. They are tasked with getting the mail
from point A to point B and can be found guilty of a federal crime if they interfere with that process.

With an unmanned ballot box, there is no one there tasked to do anything and, as you pointed out in another message, that has now become a problem.
